🌙 Staying Safe as the Nights Get Darker – Community Safety Advice 🌙

Good Evening Residents,

As we move further into autumn and winter, the evenings are becoming darker earlier. This can provide opportunities for criminals, so now is a good time to take a few simple steps to help keep yourselves, your families, and your property safe.

🔒 Keep Your Home Secure

Always lock doors and windows, even when you are at home.

Ensure sheds, garages, and side gates are secured.

Do not leave valuables visible through windows.

Consider using timer switches on lights if you are away from home.

If you have doorbell cameras or CCTV, ensure they are working correctly.

🚗 Vehicle Crime Prevention

Always lock your vehicle and remove valuables when leaving it unattended.

Do not leave bags, phones, tools, or sat navs on display.

Park in well-lit areas where possible.

Ensure keys are kept out of sight and away from doors and windows.

🚶 Personal Safety & VAWG Awareness Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) remains a priority. If you are walking alone:

Stick to well-lit routes where possible.

Let someone know your expected journey and arrival time.

Avoid wearing headphones at high volume so you remain aware of your surroundings.

Trust your instincts and move to a safe place if something feels wrong.

If you feel threatened or in immediate danger, call 999.
